Obedience to God is not external conformance with manmade traditions. It’s something that happens first with repentance — turning from sin toward God and continues with following God’s instructions. As we get a glimpse of the scene when Jesus was baptized, we also get a glimpse of God’s opinion of the gross hypocrisy of the Sadducees and Pharisees. We also get to see Jesus showing His obedience with a picture of His coming death, burial, and resurrection.
